The malpractice involved external assistance to students and possession of unauthorised material.

Kampala- The Uganda National Examinations Board (Uneb) yesterday announced it was withholding results of 173 candidates who sat the 2014 Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) examinations.

The number of results withheld represents an increase of 139 candidates from 34 registered in 2013.

The Uneb Executive Secretary Mathew Bukenya said the malpractice involved external assistance to the candidates, possession of unauthorised material in the examination room and collusion.

He said Uneb withheld results from several examination centres pending conclusion of the investigations. Some of the affected centres include Nsambya Hillside High School in Wakiso District, Lunar International School in Buyende district and Giants College in Luweero district.

“Several invigilators who were on duty at some of our centres have been referred to police and will be charged with neglect of duty,” Mr Bukenya said.

Meanwhile, inquiries into the withheld results of the Primary Leaving Examinations were concluded yesterday with two centres cleared and their results released.
Results for other centres were recommended for cancellation.

Mr Bukenya said the inquiries for withheld O-Level exam results will start on March 3.

Early this year, results of 1,936 Senior Four candidates from 79 centres were withheld for examination malpractices, which the Minister of Education Jessica Alupo described as a shameful and unprofessional act by the culprits.
