KIRYADONGO.

A Gaaga bus accident has claimed at least 20 people this evening at Kiryandongo. The bus was traveling from Lira to Kampala.

An eye witness who was traveling in another vehicle said about 20 bodies were pulled from the wreckage.

"It is unbelievable to see bodies all over the place. We are still pulling people from the wreckage."

The eye witness said many of the dead and injured were students returning to school for their second term.

Fr Epiphany Picho who is among those at the accident scene told Daily Monitor that: "We are still on the rescue mission here and about 15 people are rescued and are now being driven in an ambulance to Kiryadongo hospital."

Fr Picho said: "The bus hit an oncoming tractor that had no head lights and in the process it swerved off the road and then hit a truck carrying beer. It is a terrible scene because some of the children also died".
