Jinja- Police in Jinja have arrested three suspects, including a pregnant woman, for dealing in marijuana.

The pregnant suspect told to police that she was introduced to the business by her husband, who directs his clients to her makeshift night restaurant on the streets of Jinja Town, to pick the plant.

The officer in charge of Jinja Police Station, Mr Felix Mugizi, who led the Thursday night operation, said Mafubira Sub-county residents were complaining of increased crime rates such as gang rape, robbery both during day and night as a result of people who consume the marijuana.

“We were able to arrest three suspects in the gardens where the plants are being grown. Unfortunately, the person behind the whole business is on the run but we are tracking him so that he is brought to book,” Mr Mugizi said.

Mr Mugizi further said the three suspects will be produced in court and charged with possession of harmful drugs and illegal cultivation of the plant.
