3 royal guards to King Oyo die in an accident

Three royal guards to King Oyo died in a an accident when the vehicle they were travelling in ahead of King Oyo, swerved off the road and knocked a tree along Mubende-Kampala high way.

The accident took place at around 4:45pm on Sunday when King Oyo and the Queen mother, Best Kemigisa were travelling from Fort Portal to Kampala after the end of the one week of fasting and prayer.

According to the Tooro Kingdom Deputy Minister of Information, Mr Vincent Mugume, the royal guards who died on the spot included Mr Kirop Alex and Mr Gandi Enock.

The Mubende District Police commander, Mr Abaine Enock, said the two died on spot and their bodies were still at Mubende Hospital mortuary.
He said the third guard, Mr Francis Balinda died on Monday early morning at Mubende hospital.

Others who were traveling in the lead car but escaped with serious injuries include Mr Julius Baguma who was rushed to Mulago hospital and 6 others who were taken to Mubende Hospital.

The incident occurred near Mubende NTC when the royal driver allegedly tried to avoid a head on collision with a bodaboda cyclist.

Mugeme however said, “Both the King and the Queen mother are in a good condition”.

King Oyo ended his one week of fasting and prayer for peace and development in his kingdom on Saturday.
The King proceeded to Kampala at his Royal home in Munyonyo.
