Police have arrested and detained at least 300 suspected criminals following the mysterious killing of a businessman last week.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman Ibin Ssenkumbi yesterday said the suspects would be taken to court after investigations.

“Criminals in urban areas often take advantage of the rainy season, especially at night to break into people’s houses and shops. Our operations are intended to show our presence in all dark spots.

We don’t want to give armed thugs room to operate in Kampala,” Mr Ssenkumbi said.
Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Andrew Kaweesi blamed the businessman’s murder on laxity of officers in the area, who have given up on area patrols.

Mr Ssenkumbi said the intelligence unit had received clues on who the suspects behind the Kisaasi shooting could be and soon they would be arrested.

According to police, Kampala Metropolitan Police Area leads the country in thefts and homicides, with mobile phone theft among the top 10 offences, with 7,000 phones stolen annually.
