Police yesterday said they will rearrest 4GC activists if they fail to show up at the Kireka Special Investigations Unit.
Mr Mathias Mpuuga, Dr Kizza Besigye, Mr Muwanga Kivumbi, Mr Assuman Basalirwa and Ms Ingrid Turinawe were last week summoned by police for allegedly holding unlawful rallies, but they all snubbed the summons.
“We are giving them a last chance to take themselves to the SIU headquarters but if they fail, we shall have no option but to go for them,” Mr Ibin Ssenkumbi, the Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson said.
‘We are ready’
Mr Mpuuga however, said: “Let them go ahead. We are ready; they can arrest me or any other 4GC activist. After all, they are not the final avenue for seeking justice.”
He said 4GC would continue its scheduled programmes because it still exists legally. “No court has outlawed 4GC,”Mr Mpuuga.
The Attorney General, Mr Peter Nyombi, last year declared 4GC an illegal organisation. But Mr Mpuuga said: I am defying his actions and I have filed a case with the High Court protesting the ban.”
He said 4GC would hold another press conference where its members would talk about governance issues including the recent insinuation of the a coup by the military.
