66 Prisons officers affected in shake-up

Kampala.

A total of 66 prison warders and wardresses have been affected in the huge shake-up by the Prison Service.
According to the March 13 service orders, the Commissioner General of Prisons, Dr Johnson Byabashaija, has since transferred some of the officers, appointed some and sent others on leave.
Dr Byabashaija described the changes that have affected both senior and junior officers is meant for “rejuvenation, rewarding of performance and training”.
He said the changes take immediate effect unless otherwise stated.
Notable in the shake-up are; Mr John Bosco Tumwebaze, who has been the commandant at Prisons Academy and Training School appointed the regional prisons commander, Kampala extra region.
He takes over from Mr Wilson Magomu, who is the Commissioner in-charge of Prisons Industries and head of Counter Terrorism at the Prisons headquarters.
Mr Selestino Twesigye, who has been the officer in-charge of Upper Prison Luzira and now moves to prisons headquarters as acting commissioner of Prisons in-charge of prisoners’ administration (remands).
He replaces Mr Apollo Bakwate Akankunda, who goes on extended leave.
Mr Alex Baineomugisha has been appointed the officer in-charge of Ruimi Prison Farm, taking over from Mr Amos Turyashaba, who goes on accumulated leave.
Kigezi Regional Prisons Commander James Frank Aisu is appointed the regional prisons commander in-charge of Mid-Eastern Region in Soroti, taking over from Mr Sam Edutu, who goes on accumulated leave.
Others are; Mr Robert Naimuli from Murchison Bay to Kigo as officer-in-Charge, Harriet Namakoye from Kigo to Lugazi as officer-in-charge, taking over from Ms Nassim Kyosibire Kawala, who proceeds on accumulated leave, Mr Ezra Dratre from Ngogwe to Kyazanga as officer in-charge, taking over from Ms Juliet Kabami, who is transferred to Kigo Women as officer-in-charge.
