Police officer beheaded, assailants steal his gun

Police are hunting for criminals who on Tuesday beheaded a police officer in Kapchorwa District.

Constable Charles Oulanya, the victim, was attached to Kapchorwa Central Police Station.

He was attacked while guarding at Kapchorwa Boma Grounds where a trade show is taking place.

The assailants took off with his gun. They reportedly used a motorcycle to escape from the scene of crime.

Police recovered 14 rounds of ammunition from the scene.

Police say the trade show will continue as investigations take shape.

“We are issuing new guidelines to ensure security of the people who come to the trade show,” Sipi regional spokesperson, Mr Chrispas Rogers Taitika said.   “The show has been going on even at night but this time we may want it to end at about midnight or 1am so that people are secure,” Mr Taitika said.

Mr Isaac Chebet, a resident of Taxi Park Village who operates a motorcycle spare parts business,  just next to the scene of crime says the incident has affected business since people are not allowed to access the area.

Inspector General of Police, Gen Kale Kayihura on Wednesday went to the crime scene to assess the situation.
