Indian national commits suicide after losing Shs50m to betting

Mubende. An Indian national has committed suicide after losing Shs50 million to a betting institution.

Police has identified the deceased as Devana Gireesh, a 23-year old, who was working as a salesman at Navis Distillers Company which is located in Kawempe, a Kampala suburb.

"The deceased hanged self in travellers hotel room number 306 using a bed sheet" said ASP Nobert Ochom, the Wamala regional police spokesperson.

He was found hanging dead by a room attendant, an eye witness said.

The management of travellers hotel then reported the incident at Mubende central police station which dispatched a team of investigators that rushed to the scene. The incident occurred at about 12pm on Friday.

"He left behind a note written in Indian and upon interpretation, he claimed he had bet company money worth Shs50 million and had accumulated hotel bills," Ochom said.
