814 lawyers pass LDC pre-entry

The Law Development Centre (LDC) has released results of the 2017/2018 pre-entry examinations.
According to a report by the Committee on legal education and training of the law council examiners, at least 814 lawyers qualified for admission to the bar course.
Of these, 299 were from Makerere University, 229 from Uganda Christian University, 127 from Islamic University in Uganda, and 75 were from Kampala International University.
37 and 33 of those that passed were from Uganda Pentecostal University, and Nkumba University, respectively.
The remaining 14 were other universities within Uganda and East Africa.
It should be noted however that the highest number of lawyers that sat for the test, were from IUIU (455), followed by UCU (435) and Makerere (420).
At least 1,797 candidates sat for the exam, bringing the pass rate to 45.29 per cent, from 35 per cent last year.
Last year, only 572 of the 1,650 lawyers who sat for the exam managed to score at least 50 per cent.
