Ruling party leaders in Lwengo District have tasked the District Woman MP to explain the whereabouts of the Shs8 million that was meant for organising meetings to market a resolution that fronted President Museveni as the sole ruling party candidate in the 2016 presidential elections.
NRM sub-county committee chairpersons led by the Kisekka Sub-county chairperson, Mr Moses Kafuuma, vowed to petition the party disciplinary committee, saying Ms Gertrude Nakabira had disappeared with the cash.
“MP Nakabira did not even give an apology to us why she did not show-up. We want our money meant for our lunch and transport facilitation,’’ Mr Kafuuma said.
The district NRM leadership organised two meetings for committee members at Kkingo and Kisekka sub-county headquarters in Bukoto South Constituency on Thursday and Friday.
Ms Nakabira, who was reportedly given the money by the NRM Secretariat to facilitate the meetings, did not show up. She claimed the district party chairperson, Hajj Muyanja Mbabaali, had invited NRM members from villages yet they were not supposed to attend the meetings. She said the money was supposed to facilitate only 200 members per sub-county.
Hajj Mbabaali presided over the meetings and paid Shs5m for the costs of the meeting. Two days earlier, the district leadership had resolved to invite all the NRM members from villages, parishes and sub-counties.
He urged the leaders to support President Museveni come 2016.
