Adam Suleiman Kalungi, the suspected boyfriend of the late Butaleja District Woman MP Cerinah Nebanda, was on Monday charged with manslaughter for allegedly supplying the narcotic drugs that led to the death of Ms Nebanda.
The state alleges that Kalungi and five others currently remanded at Luzira prison caused the death of Ms Nebanda on December 14 2012.
“Yes, it’s true,” Mr Kalungi told a fairly packed courtroom at Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court when the charges were read to him.
However, the Chief Magistrate Esther Nabayo could not take accept his guilty plea because he did not have a lawyer to advise him on the consequences of entering the plea.
The magistrate instead remanded Mr Kalungi until Tuesday, January 8, when the state will provide him with a lawyer to advise him before he can enter plea.
According to the charge sheet, Kalungi also faces other charges of unlawful possession of narcotic drugs contrary to section 47 (1) and 60 (2) of the National Drug Policy and Authority Act 1993.
