Kampala- The Prime Minister, Dr Ruhankana Rugunda, has called on African governments to put in place appropriate mechanisms aimed at improving good governance, curbing corruption, and improving service delivery.

He made the remarks at the opening of the first international conference on governance and service delivery in Kampala on Tuesday.

“We have to rely on forums like this, where best practices in governance and service delivery are shared,” Dr Rugunda said.
He urged the participants to deliberate on informative policy at organisational, national and international levels so as to rekindle hope for developing economies especially in sub-Saharan Africa.

“If possible, we should find solutions for our people to tap in and learn from investing in such conferences where stake holders, including international partners, civil society organisations come together to find solutions that should be appropriately implemented,” he said.

The prime minister said the government is supportive of initiatives that improve good governance and service delivery since it has established a delivery unit to ensure speedy and timely services to the people.

The conference was attended by 50 dignitaries and ministers from across Africa, diplomats and parliamentarians from across the globe.

Mr Ketumile Masire, the former president of Botswana, who is credited for spearheading good governance in his country, urged African governments to accelerate measures that improve service delivery.
