Govt Chief Whip Nankabirwa speaks out on a plot to change Order Paper

Chief Government Whip Ruth Nankabirwa

The Chief Government Whip, Ms Ruth Nankabirwa, says the Order paper for Tuesday’s parliamentary proceedings is changing in order to accommodate a notice for Igara West MP Raphael Magyezi to seek leave of the House to table a motion to remove the presidential age limit.

The item was missing on a version of the agenda that Parliament circulated earlier on Tuesday.

Ms Nankabirwa says no government will legislate itself out of power, putting what she described as the "minority opposition " on notice.

"I can assure you that motions for the amendment of the Order Paper will be moved in the House this (Tuesday) afternoon, " she says.

MP Magyezi, whose request has stalled for two weeks now, earlier promised to task the Speaker to explain why she was, as the presiding officer, failing to provide a slot for him on the Order Paper.

The ten UPDF representatives in Parliament separately met on Tuesday and, according to sources, resolved not take part in the expected divisive debate. A source says the soldiers decided they will express their opinion through voting once the matter is brought before the House.
