Amama Mbabazi's convoy involved in accident

The convoy of Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi was Monday involved in an accident after the lead car was knocked by a Isuzu truck at Abayita Ababiri, near Entebbe town.

Mr Mbabazi who was not hurt was reportedly travelling to Entebbe to attend a meeting at State House.

Entebbe Police Traffic boss, Mr Jackson Muwanika said the accident was caused by the truck driver who failed to give way to Mr Mbabazi’s convoy.

 “The Police vehicle was sounding sirens and any professional driver would have provided way as stipulated in the Road and Safety Act. That the driver failed to do so,” Mr Muwanika said.

The unidentified truck driver is on the run.

Mr Patrick Makanga, an eyewitness said Very Important People’s lead cars drive carelessly, making them prone to accidents.

“Unfortunately, the police always prosecute the weaker side because majority of the people don’t know the law,” Mr Makanga said.

The Constitution provides the right of way for an Ambulance and Fire Bridge, President, Vice President, Prime Minister, Chief justice and the Speaker of  Parliament and their deputies but many Ugandans move with lead cars wanting right of way.
