Amuru- Unknown people have uprooted the sign post and mark stones that were last week planted at the boundary between Amuru and Adjumani districts on the contested land in Apaa parish, Pabbo Sub-county.

Government last week demarcated and put mark stones in Apaa parish, Pabbo as boundary between Amuru and Ajdumani districts.

Residents from the two districts and Uganda Wildlife Authority have been feuding over the 40 square kilometer land.

The acting Adjumani district police Commander, Mr Gabriel Vuuko, told Daily Monitor that unknown persons used hacksaw to cut off the sign post that was planted last week and took it away.

Mr Vuuko said despite police protecting it, they were surprised to find that the sign post and some mark stones had been removed over the weekend.

“The sign post that reads “Welcome to Adjumani District, we wish you a safe journey” was erected at the border between the two districts in Apaa parish last week. However when we checked last Sunday morning it was missing,” said Mr Vuuko.

False claims
Apaa LCI chairman Maurian Abola has dismissed claims that the residents are behind the theft of the sign post and mark stones. He said many residents have been in hiding and the police were in the area guarding the place.

While addressing residents at Apaa trading centre at the weekend, Kilak County MP Gilbert Olanya said:
“The mark stones and sign post erected should not worry the residents. The hands that planted them will be the same hand to uproot them, because this is our land and no one shall take it away.”

Police had arrested Mr Olanya at Parabongo Parish in Pabbo sub-county, as he headed to Pabbo trading centre, where residents were protesting heavy security deployment in Apaa parish.
He was charged with inciting and threatening violence.
He was released last week by Amuru Grade One Magistrate on a bail of Shs1.5m.
