Another Flying Squad officer shot dead

Kampala.
Detective Corporal David Kyambadde and seven other officers left for crime scene bent to foil a robbery at a hardware shop at Kyaali Stage in Kawempe Division, Kampala suburb.
The operation turned out to be D/CPL Kyambadde’s last.
Mr Kyambadde, a star violent crime cracker, with a record dating back to the times of the Violent Crime Crack Unit (VCCU), was gunned down in a shootout with armed thugs last Saturday night at around 8pm.
Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesman, Patrick Onyango said Mr Kyambadde succumbed to bullet wounds at the crime scene.

“Our officers shot dead one thug, Robert Emikau, 35, and injured another only identified as Wilson prompting others to flee the area using boda boda motorcycles. We are still hunting for the others,” Mr Onyango said.

The fleeing suspects abandoned an SMG rifle with 28 bullets and a motorcycle. Investigations are on to establish the owner of the rifle.
This year has so far been the deadliest for police officers in a decade with more than a dozen killed by armed criminals in just seven months.

Mr Kyambadde is the 10th police officer to be gunned down in less than two months.
Five officers were killed in Rwenzori tribal conflicts.
Last week, two police officers were shot and seriously injured when they were ambushed by armed men in Itojo, Hoima District, Mid this month, a bodyguard of Mr Ibrahim Kaddunabi was attacked by thugs and disarmed of his pistol. He survived with serious injuries.
Early this month, AIP Grace Mwine was shot dead when following up a beheading at a Pentecostal church in Kyegegwa District.
Last month, a suspected thug accessed Nsambya Police barracks and stabbed to death a police constable, Mukama.

Hajj Abdu Ssebagala, a Flying Squad operative, was gunned down near his home recently in Kampala.
Another officer at the rank of a Corporal attached to Dorwe Police post in Namayingo District was cut and later shot dead by criminals who wanted him to hand over a gun.
Uganda Human Rights Commission chairman Med Kaggwa, raised a red flag asking for a thorough investigations into the people behind the killing of police officers.

June 26, 2013. Mohammad Meera, 27, a Police Constable attached to Masaka central police station, was waylaid by suspected criminals and hit with a stone and died. His gun wasn’t taken because his colleagues responded early.
