A Gaagaa bus has this afternoon been involved in an accident that has killed one person and injured seven others in Kiryandongo district.
The bus registration number UAT 559Y which was transporting passengers from Arua to Kampala veered off the road at Nyamahasa village in Kiryandongo at about 1pm.
Police said information obtained from the scene indicates that the bus attempted to overtake two trucks which were ahead of it. The trucks were also traveling in the same direction as the bus.
The driver in the truck which was in the middle also suddenly decided to overtake the truck which was ahead of it yet the bus was also overtaking.
“This caused the bus that was at its rear to veer off the road and overturn. Seven people have been confirmed injured, and one person passed on,” the Albertine regional Police spokesperson Julius Hakiza said.
Police has identified the injured as Aziku simon 22, Bagonza Robert,38 the conductor of bus, Amamiyo Rose,40, Drazuwa nelson, 65, Olwoch Apollo, 58, jonam, Aberu Susan, 47 and Evaline Sendaula Acaa 40 a resident of Nwoya district.
The dead has been identified as Kisule Hassan 32, a businessman from Kisenyi in Kampala.
The Kiryandongo District Police commander Mr Charles Okello led a team of traffic officers and Scene of crime officers to the scene of the accident.
The injured were evacuated to Kiryandongo hospital where they are currently injuries, Hakiza said.
Last month, more than twenty people perished and over fifteen others sustained injuries when a Gaagaa bus collided with a trailer after knocking a tractor at Nanda in Kiryandongo district.
The injured victims were airlifted to Kampala for further medication. Government declared three days of national mourning.
