Army court jails four robbers for 10 years

  • Prosecution told court that on May 1, 2013, Kabugo and others still at large on Nakivubo Green Street in Kampala District, stole airtime worth Shs100million, calculator, books of accounts and keys from Mr Sunday Venancio. They also stole airtime worth Shs32milion from Mr Eddy Mukasa and threatened to use a fire arm (AK47) which is a monopoly of the defence forces.

KAMPALA: Four people who were convicted of aggravated robbery of more than Shs500 million from a Forex Bureau in Kampala have been sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The General Court Martial at Makindye yesterday jailed; Moses Kasiita, Henry Kabugo, Jolly Lubega and Sulaiman Waisswa after they admitted committing the crime after spending three years on remand.

“Considering the aggravating factors of carrying a firearm in the robbery, you are sentenced to 10 years imprisonment. The sentencing guideline direct courts to consider time spent on remand which we comply with,” held Lt Gen Andrew Gutti, the army court chair.

Prosecution case
Court heard that on March 3, 2015, around Eso corner on Jinja road in Kampala District, the convicts stole Shs525million from Mr Male Kalembe of Spot forex bureau.

In a separate charge, Kabugo was also convicted of aggravated robbery of airtime worth Shs132million and other accessories from a mobile money agent in the Kampala city center.
Kabugo confessed committing the crime after spending two years on remand.
