Prediction. The former FDC leader says an unstoppable people’s revolution will sweep away the incumbent regime

Luweero.

Former FDC party president Kizza Besigye has once again predicted that an unstoppable people’s revolution that will sweep away the incumbent regime is imminent.

“The coming revolution will be unstoppable by the army and police which have kept Mr Museveni in power despite all indicators of a collapsing regime,” Dr Besigye said.

“Be vigilant and wait for the final whistle which will set off the change. I highly doubt whether the army and police will be of any help,” he added.

The politician-cum activist was addressing a public rally at Luweero Town Council sports ground on Tuesday. Dr Besigye, who vowed never to abandon efforts aimed at liberating Ugandans from what he termed as an oppressive regime, said President Museveni has hoodwinked citizens that they have power to change government through the ballot yet it’s impractical under the current governance systems.

He said the call for electoral reforms pushed by the civil society smells bad for Mr Museveni whose regime claims to be democratic.

He cited former prime minister Amama Mbabazi and former vice president Gilbert Bukenya as captives in their own party.
However, NRM spokesperson Ofwono Opondo scoffed at Dr Besigye’s remarks.

“I don’t know what Besigye means by holding Ugandans captives. There is a constitution around which we work as government. We use the Constitution to hold elections every five years. The issue of Ugandans getting angry cannot arise,” Mr Opondo said.

Dr Besigye said even the persons who helped bring government to power have lost hope. “They are now pleading for mercy. Tusaba Gavumenti etuyambe (we appeal for government’s help),” he said, mimicking talk of people in dire straits and asking for government intervention.

“Ugandans must know that the Museveni regime will not save them. Lamenting without engaging in a struggle to change the system will not help the situation,” he stated.
