Arsonist sets fire on magistrate's house

KAMPALA-An arsonist on Monday morning set fire on a house belonging to Lugazi Grade One Magistrate, Ms Carol Kabugo.

No deaths were recorded in the incident since occupants of the house responded early enough and put out the fire.

"An unknown person tried to put our house on fire at about 5am. He managed to open the window and poured paraffin on one of the curtains and a chair and started the fire," Ms Kabugo said in one of her social media posts.

She added: "Thank God we managed to put out the fire before it spread. We are all okay. Police have come but of course it’s very difficult to know who the attacker was.

The Judiciary Public Relations Officer Mr Emmy Vincent Mugabo said the police would investigate the matter.

"Police are yet to investigate the matter. Let's hope they can lead to a conclusive investigation," Mr Mugabo said.

This comes barely two months after unknown gun men accessed the home of Mengo Chief Magistrate Mary Babirye in Kasangati in Wakiso District.

They were repulsed by her guard.
