Unknown assailants gun down Arua businessman

A businessman was on Thursday night shot dead by unknown assailants as he drove home from his shop in the outskirts of Arua town.
Emmanuel Itenede was from his shop in Odramacaku trading centre at the Uganda- Democratic Republic of Congo ( DRC) border.
The police Public Relations Officer for West Nile, Ms Josephine Angucia, said: “The information we have is that he was being trailed by his assailants who first shot the tyre of his car then after veering off the road, they shot him two bullets in the chest and stomach.”

His bodyguard, Sgt. Mukasa was also shot dead. The two were driving to the city in a UPDF pick-up truck on Saturday at about 7:30 am.

After shooting the cyclist, the armed assailants are said to have run away with his motorcycle.
According to Ms Angucia, police are battling with raising cases of illegal arms in the hands of wrong people.
The security committee has in various meetings been puzzled over proliferation of guns in the West Nile districts due to the porous borders with South Sudan and DR Congo.
