Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has warned against government’s plan to bail out distressed companies saying it is wastage of taxpayers’ money.
According to Dr Besigye, it is okay to bail out businesses that are collapsing but strategic to the country in a manner that will benefit the country.
“But the companies listed are the same as those that gave [ruling National Resistance Movement] NRM money during the last elections. One of the companies gave Mr Museveni Shs500m for his election. Now it’s in trouble, they want to burden Ugandans…..” he said.

Last week, a document seen by the Daily Monitor revealed more than 66 companies and individuals are seeking a total of Shs1.3 trillion from the government because they’re indebted.
“Ugandans must unite on this matter. These are the real matters of politics. I have been hearing public relations officers of government agencies saying politics has ended and now it’s time for development. Politics never ends. How do you expect Ugandans to keep quiet as you take away Shs1.3 trillion to bail out individuals when Ugandans are need of the cancer machine in Mulago?” added Besigye.

Besigye made the remarks at Makindye Magistrates Court on Monday shortly after a case of disobeying lawful orders against him and Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago was dismissed.
