People originating from Kigezi sub-region in western Uganda gather for their annual cultural get-together in Kampala today.
Central Bank Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile, chairman of the local chapter of the International Community of Banyakigezi (ICOB-UG), will be chief host of the gala which will feature various cultural activities and items at the Uganda Museum.
“We expect to have at least 600 people attending,” said Mr Ellady Muyambi, a member of the organising committee.
Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi is expected at the convention being MP for Kinkiizi West, Kanungu District in Kigezi. The Kampala meeting is a precursor to the major annual gathering that traditionally has been hosted mainly in North America. This year’s international convention will take place in Washington DC on July 31.
