Kampala- As the political tension ahead of 2016 gains momentum, former Makerere University vice chancellor Venansius Baryamureeba has scheduled August 14 to kick start his campaign that will see him stand for presidency in the elections.

Addressing journalists yesterday, Prof Baryamureeba said change will not come when the country is just relying on only President Museveni.

He said change can be achieved with concerted efforts of all Ugandans who continue to face poor standards of living.

Mr Baryamureeba revealed that his supporters across the country and abroad have been demanding a committee to raise resources for his campaigns for the 2016 elections and that this is in accordance with Section 3(2) (C) of the Presidential Elections Act that allows a presidential aspirant to raise funds through lawful means.

“I have come up with a roadmap for nationwide public consultations that shall begin on August 14, and end on September 25. We need to avoid a precedent of a president dying in office because of old age like it’s happening in other countries lately,” he said.

“Even the word of God recognises that after 70, as humans, we may not be able to achieve as much as we would in our earlier years. Who are we to think otherwise?” Prof Baryamureeba asked.

He said he has mapped out the country into five regions where he will consult people. He will end with the launch of his manifesto in Kampala on September 25.
