Basajjabalaba arrested in Entebbe

Businessman Hassan Basajjabalaba was yesterday evening arrested at Entebbe Airport, hours after court had released him on bail.

Detectives from the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Directorate trailed Mr Basajjabalaba from Kampala before pouncing on him at the airport. It is not clear what the businessman’s destination was.

Ms Grace Akullo, the director CIID, confirmed the arrest.

“We have sent several summonses to Basajjabala but he has not appeared. Today, we decided to arrest him as per the DPP’s advice for prosecution over the forgery case.”

Mr Basajjabalaba was by press time being transferred from Entebbe to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) headquarters in Kireka for detention.

He is wanted for allegedly forging a consent judgment used in evading taxes on Shs142 billion he received in compensation from the government. (By Andrew Bagala & Dear Jeanne)
