Forum for Democratic Change leader, Dr Kizza Besigye has been arrested. He was arrested this Monday morning amidst chaos at Kisekka Market, downtown Kampala, where he had gone as part of the renewed "For God and Country" (4GC) country-wide processions that were announced on Saturday by various opposition activists.
Running battles ensued as police battled stone-throwing youth and market vendors. The cops fired tear gas to disperse crowds before whisking Dr Besigye and some of his aides to Central Police Station in Kampala.
The 4GC which was outlawed by the government has held several demonstrations across the country since its formation in May.
According to the group, they are renewing their efforts to protest bad governance, poverty, unemployment, corruption, land grabbing and human rights abuses.
Last week, Police slapped a ban on all kinds of demonstrations and rallies ahead of Uganda’s golden jubilee celebrations slated for October 9.
