Besigye arrested in Kampala, taken to Nalufenya

It is not the first time Dr Besigye's car is being towed away.

Dr Kizza Besigye, who contested on the Forum for Democratic Change ticket in the February elections and lost to President Yoweri Museveni has been arrested by police after making a surprise appearance in Kampala City.
His appearance triggered excitement and ululations from members of public in down-town Kampala causing crowds to surge towards the vehicle in which he is driving and waving to them.
Dr Besigye has been under surveillance by police at his home in Kasangati on grounds that the former presidential candidate is a threat to public order.

Security forces were seen dispersing crowds that were waving to Dr Besigye by beating them up using clubs. Minutes later, police fired teargas to disperse the crowds.
In the ensuing chaos Dr Besiye was arrested by police and reportedly driven to Nalufenya Police Station in Jinja district.
His appearance in Kampala comes just a day to the swearing in of President Yoweri Museveni tomorrow.
Many traders have been thrown into panic with many closing their shops.
Police boss, Mr Kale Kayihura has on several occasions been reported in the media warning Dr Besigye and other party officials against their defiance campaign ahead of President Yoweri Museveni swearing in slated for May 12.

The warnings followed a Constitutional Court order, blocking FDC or any of the party’s agents against organising any procession or carrying on with the defiance campaign pending determination of a Constitutional case filed by government.
Dr Besigye has also been saying Mr Museveni’s fifth coming term in office is neither legal nor legitimate without an independent audit of the February 18 polls.
Deputy Chief Justice Steven Kavuma who issued the order exparte (listening to only one side) said it shall remain in force for four months a time in which the main application would be heard.
