Rukungiri.
Rukungiri Municipality MP Roland Mugume Kaginda has asked residents not to get worried or cry over the imprisonment of former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye, saying it is the price one pays in the struggle for democracy.
“What Dr Besigye is going through is what anyone who wants to become a leader in a hostile environment endures. For us, we need to be strong and hold his tormentors accountable,” Mr Kaginda said.
He was speaking during the giveaway ceremony of Dr Besigye’s niece, Ms Generous Atukunda, at Rwakabengo in Rukungiri Municipality last Friday.
Ms Atukunda, who is an employee of North Kigezi Diocese, was given away to Rev Can Eliazari Twinomugisha of Ankole Diocese.
Mr Kaginda was reacting to comments by the head of Abanzira clan in Rukungiri District, Mr Eldard Turyahamugisha, who said Dr Besigye’s continued harassment by the state was worrying and would affect the future of Ugandan politics.

THE CASE
