On July 12, Justice Masalu granted Dr Besigye bail of Shs100 million not cash in a case in which he was charged with treason

Former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate Dr Kizza Besigye has reported to court as one of the bail conditions set by the High Court judge Wilson Masalu Musene.
Upon his release on July 12, Dr Besigye was ordered to report to the registrar of High Court- Criminal Division once every two weeks starting July 26 as one of the bail conditions.

The four time presidential candidate and challenger of President Yoweri Museveni Tuesday reported to court in the company of his two lawyers, Ernest Kalibala and Frederick Mpanga.
Unlike in the previous cases of heavy security deployment and blocking of roads whenever Besigye appeared in court, today, business at the High Court was normal.
Also, Dr Besigye did not have a procession of his supporters like it has always been the case whenever he went to or left court.

At Court, he was told the registrar, Mary Khainza Eleanor to whom he was supposed to report was not around. She had reportedly travelled to Entebbe where she was attending a conference.
Dr Besigye then signed in a book with the guidance of one of the court clerks and was told to report back on August 9.
Before he left the registrar’s office, Dr Besigye narrated of how he was arrested and detained at Jinja road police station yesterday shortly after Makindye Magistrates Court dismissed a case of disobeying lawful order against him and Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
He said police towed his car, with him inside to Jinja Raod police Station where he was detained as a security measure until 9:00pm when he released.

“I was detained for the entire day until 9pm when they set me free. When I asked for a release bond, police told me I had been detained as a security measure and therefore I was free to go home,” he said.
On July 12, Justice Masalu granted Dr Besigye bail of Shs100 million not cash in a case in which he was charged with treason. Each of the four sureties that Besigye presented were also bonded Shs100million not cash.
The judge cautioned Dr Besigye to refrain from acts of violence and preserve peace in the community until case is disposed-off.
He was ordered to report to the registrar of the court once every two weeks starting July 26.
