KAYUNGA- Farmers Party of Uganda presidential candidate Benon Biraaro has promised to build a special prison for people convicted of corruption if he is elected president as a way of fighting the vice that has become a cancer to the economy.

“If you elect me president, I will use the first two years to build a special prison in Kidepo National Park in Karamoja where those convicted of corruption will be confined. I want them imprisoned here because if they try to escape from prison, they would be eaten by lions,” Gen Biraaro said.

Gen Biraaro said because of corruption and bad governance, healthcare in the country had become “sick”, promising to revamp it by ensuring that all health centres have enough drugs.

Gen Biraaro, who addressed campaign rallies in Kayunga Town and Nazigo Trading Centre on Sunday, also disclosed that his government will increase the agriculture budget to Shs10 trillion.

He said farmers in Uganda constitute 85 per cent, which he said makes them powerful. However, despite their dominance, Gen Biraaro said, the farmers are not aware of their importance.
He promised to ensure that land tenants in Kayunga district whose land was grabbed from them is returned to them.
Gen Biraaro opened his district office in Nazigo town.
