Bishop Kaggwa to demonstrate over potholes

MASAKA. Masaka Diocese Bishop, John Baptist Kaggwa has given Masaka Municipality authorities a one -week ultimatum to fix all the potholes in the Municipality or else he stages a demonstration.
The man of God is also unhappy with the increasing filthy in Masaka Town, saying the residents risk contracting diseases related to poor hygiene at the onset of the rainy season.
“I was persuaded to call off my strike last time (December last year) by authorities who promised to work on the roads by March, 2016 have done nothing to date,” Bishop Kaggwa said.
The bishop was addressing pilgrims at St Bruno Ssaza Parish last Sunday.

The sacred site is the birth place of St. Bruno Sserunkuma, one of the Uganda Martyrs who were burnt at Namugongo, in Wakiso District.
Bishop Kaggwa threatened to mobilise all people in the Municipality to remind the authority of its duties.
Last December, the Municipality authorities had convinced Bishop Kaggwa that construction of major roads in the area including the stretch from Nyendo Town to to Kitovu Cathedral will be worked on after the general elections, which the latter welcomed.

This came after the bishop threatened to mobilise the faithful to conduct community service work commonly known as Bulungi Bwansi to fill the potholed Nyendo-Kitovu road, saying leaders in the municipality had failed to fix it.
Many roads in Masaka Municipality are currently in a poor state and locals have on several occasions staged demonstrations to express their disillusionment.
