Bishop turns funeral service into a Museveni rally

Mourners at the funeral service for the former National Social Security fund chairman Charles Okui, in Katakwi District were astounded when a bishop joined NRM politicians to campaign for President Museveni.

Bishop George Erwau of Soroti Diocese, joined local politicians and dedicated a greater part of his sermon calling on the mourners to vote for President Museveni in the coming elections, drawing murmurs among the mourners.
“It seems Iteso reached a point of bitterness which led Captain Mike Mukula and Musa Echweru to pick up guns and repulse Kony from Teso which made this government realize that Iteso are not bad people,” he said.

He added, “There is no basis for Iteso, Acholi, Sabiny and Langi to pick qualms with President Museveni because he is not the one who over threw Milton Obote,” advising that, instead, they should be happy with him because of taming Karamojong and making them civilized citizens which all previous governments had failed.

“You can say anything about this regime but our uncles gave us hell. There was talk that Karamojong would never be disarmed but they were disarmed at a high cost,” adding that it is known that for a very longtime that Museveni had dreams of becoming a president and sometimes God honors dreams which he did for Museveni.

The Late Charles Okui served as the NSSF board chairman between 1990 and 2000. He was also the Minister for commerce in Obote government and has served in several different capacities in the NRM regime. Government decided to accord him an official burial because of his contribution towards development in Uganda and the Common Market for East, Southern Africa (COMESA) region.

Among the Politicians who attended were Captain Mike Mukula who flew in a charted Chopper, State Minister for Disaster Preparedness Musa Echweru, Education Minister Jessica Alupo, Teso Affairs Minister Christine Aporu, Minister for Lango Affairs Amongin Otengo and FDC Chief Whip Cecilia Ogwal.
