KAMWENGE.
Church of Uganda bishops from western Uganda have resolved to use Information Communication Technology (ICT) to spread the gospel.

This was reached at during a five-day convention held in Kamwege District, East Ruwenzori Diocese recently.

Bishop Dan Zoreka, the chairperson of Church of Uganda Western Bishops, said the clergy agreed to absorb ICT during evangelism to be able to catch up with the modern global trends.

“God has given us more medium to carry out the task of evangelism. We thank God for providing this huge modernisation for the purpose of evangelism,” Rev Zoreka, who is also the Bishop of Kinkizi Diocese, said.

He said all bishops agreed to be computer literate to match with the modern era, adding that most churches already have televisions, radios and social media accounts through which they share good news with their followers.

The bishop condemned cults that are anti-technology, saying they are preaching against the will of God.
The bishops also discussed the necessity for church leaders to preach the need to utilise available resources to boost their income. Bishop Nathan Ahimbisibwe of South Ankole Diocese singled out commercial farming, and investment in infrastructure, which he said can boost household income quickly.

The host, Bishop Edward Arinaitwe Bamuchwanira, encouraged his fellow bishops who are gifted with different talents to incorporate them in preaching sessions.

The Uganda Communication Commission Executive Director, Eng Godfrey Mutabazi, who later hosted the bishops at his home for a luncheon, promised to support the church in setting up internet and radios.
