Kampala-More than 30,000 women are set to benefit from entrepreneurial training by the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women.

The training is to enable them live successful lives, Cherie Blair, founder of the UK charity organisation, has said.

“The power of a nation is the development of its people. About 42 per cent of global population is women, who should have access to finance.
“I would love to see in future for my foundation to work with your foundation for women finance literacy training,” she said yesterday.

Speaking at a meeting organised by the Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda and members of the Nabagereka Foundation at Bulange Mengo, Ms Blair commended Nnabagereka for her initiative to develop Buganda Kingdom.

Answering Nnabagereka call
She made the pledge shortly after Nnabagereka’s request for support.

“Nnabagereka Foundation leverages culture to uplift the status of women and youth. Although we do this without political and legislative powers, the kingdom has millions of followers.
“We work to develop our people, especially to empower women to have everlasting economic independence. You have empowered many women in Africa and I am anxious to work with you,” Ms Nagginda said.

To which Ms Blair, the wife of former UK prime minister Tony Blair, responded: “We provide women with entrepreneur skills in developing and emerging markets with the skills, technology, networks and access to finance that they need to become successful small and growing business owners that they can contribute to their economies and have a stronger voice in their societies.”

She added: “Working in partnership with local and international non-profit organisations, the private and public sector, the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women develops projects with sustainable solutions to the challenges women entrepreneurs face through three programmes: enterprise development, mentoring and mobile technology.”
