Boda boda passengers face arrest in new operation

Police has embarked on an operation targeting overloaded motorcycles where passengers will be subject to arrest and detention as well as the motorcycle riders.

The operation which aims that reducing sitting of two passengers and carrying of materials and goods on motorcycles has begun in Kampala, Entebbe, Mukono and Wakiso Districts.

According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander, the operations will see, passengers and riders overloading charged a fine of Shs200,000 or sentenced to a two year imprisonment.

“the issue of overloading seems to be encouraged by the public more than the riders and since the Road Safety Act provides for the passenger also taking liability for the vice, we are now out to apply it,” Mr Kaweesi said.

The operation targets boda boda riders carrying two passengers, animals, poultry, merchandise among other things.
