Body of 3-month-old baby retrieved from River Nile

PAKWACH. A three-month-old baby girl was among the people who drowned in River Nile on Sunday morning after a truck they were travelling on plunged into the waters at Lubiri Landing Site in Pakwach Town Council.
Marvin Alisi’s body was retrieved by police marine yesterday at Pacego Kinzo Landing Site, about seven kilometres from the accident scene. The toddler’s mother who police had not yet identified by press time, reportedly also died in the accident.

Bodies recovered
On Tuesday, police confirmed retrieving nine bodies from the water while 15 people were rescued alive. They are receiving treatment at Pakwach Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Nebbi and Gulu districts respectively.
The truck was reportedly transporting more than 20 traders from Amuru District to Panyimur market in Panyimur Sub-county.
The West Nile Region police spokesperson, Ms Josephine Angucia, on Wednesday released names of the deceased, adding that two more bodies were reportedly still missing.
Ms Angucia identified some the deceased as Florence Acaa, 42, Florence Anyeko, 42 and Janet Apiyo, 15, all residents of Nwoya District.
Others are Lilly Akumu, 30, Auma Nancy, 28 and Anthony Ocaya, 28 all residents of Amuru District. She said the bodies were identified by relatives and friends.
Three bodies were not yet identified by press time.
According to Ms Angucia, the bodies were retrieved from Pa Oyoo, Pumvuga, Jalurnga, Jakolo, Pa’ Oyoo and Pujwang landing sites some 300 metres and 9 kilometres away from the accident scene.
Ms Angucia said the search is still ongoing for two more bodies that are suspected to be in the waters.
She said the bodies are at Pakwach Hospital morgue pending postmortem.
