Kampala- Commander of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces contingent in the volatile South Sudan, Brig Muhanga Kayanja, has been appointed the 4th Division Commander in northern Uganda in the military reshuffle made on Thursday.
Brig Kayanja has replaced Col Emmanuel Kanyesigye, who was transferred to head the military police at Makindye in Kampala. Col Kanyesigye is deputised by Lt Col Abel Kandiho, former commander of the Joint Anti-Terrorism Unit under the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence.
Brig Kayanja will remain in South Sudan but will coordinate operations in Gulu.
“He will still be the commander of Zulu Task Force and his posting there (Gulu) does not change anything,” the army spokesperson, Lt Col Paddy Ankunda said yesterday.
Col Joseph Balikuddembe, who returned in January from the Somalia peace operations where he commanded the Uganda Battle Group 11, was posted to the 4th Division as Brig Kayanja’s deputy.
