PALLISA. The Bagwere cultural institution has earmarked Shs2.5bn towards the improvement of education, drilling of boreholes and fighting malaria in the districts of Pallisa, Budaka, Butebo and Kibuku.
In a period of less than one year, Shs1.5bn has been spent to drill four boreholes, construction of schools at Kenkebu, Kachoma, and distribution of mosquito nets to various primary schools.
The institution’s leader, Ikumbania John Weyabire, on the third day of his official tour of Pallisa District told his subjects that the cultural institution has embarked on supplementing government programmes through various interventions like construction of schools and water provision.
While addressing his subjects in Pallisa at the weekend, the Ikumbania, also launched a tree planting campaign. He noted that tree cutting for either charcoal burning or firewood are some of the factors putting the districts of Budaka,Pallisa and Kibuku at risk of becoming a desert in future if the problem is not urgently addressed
The cultural leader also urged parents to take seriously their role of nurturing children and supporting them to ensure they are adequately coached to tackle life challenges.
“Children must be closely monitored. Let them know that the future affairs of the country lie in their hands,” he said.
He commissioned four boreholes and also pledged that more will be provided to enable people access safe water.
