Hoima- Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom has started renovating structures that have been earmarked for the proposed Bunyoro University.
The renovation was launched by the kingdom’s deputy prime minister, Mr Blasio Mugasa, last Saturday.

Among the structures to be renovated are the kingdom’s parliament locally known as Rukurato and the administration block, which are currently in a sorry state. They were constructed during the reign of Omukama Sir Tito Winyi in the 1960s.

The kingdom’s education minister, Ms Harriet Businge, said the renovation will cost more than Shs500 million.
The structures to be renovated are among those that the King of Bunyoro, Dr Solomon Gafabusa Iguru offered to accommodate the proposed Bunyoro University.

The king on May 2 inaugurated an interim committee to fast-track the operationalisation of the proposed university.

King Iguru asked his subjects to work selflessly to realise the project that has dragged on for decades. He also offered 45 acres of land in Kikwatamiigo village in Mparo Division for the university.

He said his people have for long struggled to attain university education because Bunyoro region lacks a public university. He said without his people attaining skills, it will be difficult for them to reap the benefits of the oil and gas industry.
