Bunyoro Kingdom has started plans to rehabilitate its cultural sites that are in a sorry state. The kingdom’s deputy prime minister, Mr Apollo Rwamparo, said the move is aimed at preserving Bunyoro’s culture that is facing numerous threats.
Mr Rwamparo, who is also the kingdom’s tourism minister, said the renovated sites will attract tourists and enable the kingdom generate income.
“We cannot afford to see our cultural sites going to the dogs. They are a treasure that needs to be conserved. We shall generate funds for their renovation, maintenance and setting up modern amenities which will be used by visitors and tourists to the sites,” he said during celebrations to mark the kingdom’s cultural day in Hoima Town on Friday.
Cash account launched
The celebrations also coincided with the launch of the kingdom’s mobile money collection account through which subjects, development partners and well wishers will contribute funds towards the kingdom’s developments.
MTN Uganda’s Mobile Money sales manager Andrew Rugamba described the partnership between the company and the kingdom as lifetime achievement.
