Hoima- Rev Canon Samuel Kahuma is the new Bishop of Bunyoro-Kitara Diocese following his consecration and enthronement on Sunday.

The Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Stanley Ntagali, presided over the event in Hoima District.

Bishop Kahuma succeeds Bishop Nathan Kyamanywa, 60, who sought early retirement.

Archbishop Ntagali called on Bishop Kahuma to seek God’s guidance in leading His people.

“When you meet challenges, take them to God because all Christians will be turning to you,” Ntagali said.

Bishop Kahuma promised to observe the laws and regulations of the diocese.

Archbishop Ntagali handed to him a Bible, the Canon Law and other instruments of authority.
After he was consecrated, Bishop Kahuma said the event came at a time when society is riddled with moral decadence and many evil influences.

“Many people are vulnerable or even victims of the sophisticated and manipulative evil schemes that have eroded our society,” Bishop Kahuma said.

He promised to take part in a crusade, which will save the young generation from being consumed by anti-Christ forces.

Bishop Kahuma said in order to execute his mission, he will build on what his predecessor did by focusing on evangelism and discipline, education, theological training, children and youth ministries, women and family ministries, clergy welfare and stewardship and income generation, among others.

Outgoing Bishop Kyamanywa, said he had fulfilled all the promises he made when he assumed the office as bishop. The consecration was attended by religious, political, cultural and civil society leaders.

The minister for Bunyoro Affairs, Mr Ernest Kiiza, commended the incoming and outgoing bishops for their commendable work in the development of the diocese.

“As we welcome the new bishop,” Mr Kiiza said, “we appreciate the dedicated, able and committed service of Bishop Kyamanya, who has left a lasting legacy in the 14 years he has been bishop of this diocese.”

President Museveni donated a brand new vehicle to Bishop Kahuma to ease his movement.
