Hoima- Bunyoro King Solomon Gafabusa Iguru on Friday gave away his daughter Princess Oliver Kabasindi in marriage.

The princes introduced her fiancé Patriot Bireetwa, from Kiruhura District to the royals and subjects of Bunyoro Kingdom in Hoima Town.

The 27-year-old princess is the first daughter of the Omukama to get married.

Ms Kabasindi told Sunday Monitor at the ceremony she met Bireetwa at Nkumba University where both were studying for a Bachelors degree in Information Technology.

Bunyoro’s Chief Prince Fred Mugenyi Rucuunya gave away the princess. He said the Omukama did not grace the ceremony because culturally the king does not perform such a function.

Speaking during the introduction ceremony, kingdom prime minister, Rev Jackson Nsamba Kasozi, urged the couple to have an illustrious marriage.

“We need peace and development in each household because families are the foundation of development for the nation,” he said.

He urged the couple to work together and bring up children who are morally upright and hardworking.
The wedding was held at St Peter’s Cathedral in Hoima Town yesterday and thereafter a reception was held at the King Iguru’s palace, also known as Karuziika in Hoima Town.
