A bus belonging to Link bus that was moving from Hoima town to Kampala reportedly knocked dead a four year old girl in Katereiga village in Buhanika subcounty.
The accident reportedly occurred at about 10am on Wednesday morning, along the Hoima-Kampala highway.
The bus registration number UAJ 178V reportedly knocked dead Majoline Katusiime.
Traffic police officers said the driver however just sped off after the accident but was intercepted by police in Kyankwanzi district and detained in police custody.
“The cause of the accident was over speeding and reckless driving. The driver has been arrested and is detained at hoima police station,”the Hoima OC traffic, Mr David Muhoozi said.
The bus is also being held at Hoima police station as more investigations into the accident are conducted.
This is the fourth bus accident to happen in less than two weeks. On August 22, twelve people were severely injured in a motor accident along Gulu-Atiak road when the bus they were travelling in overturned. The Kampala bound bus belonging to Friendship Bus Company was from Adjumani District.
On August 20, another bus accident along Mbarara-Kabale road left one person dead and five others injured while on August 18, at least seven people were confirmed dead, 20 others critically injured in an accident involving two buses; belonging to Gaagaa and KK bus companies plying Kampala-Gulu highway.
