Busia.

A 12 year-old pupil in Busia who had gone missing after being kidnapped by unknown assailants has been found dead after a four-day search by both the parents and the police.

The deceased, Hassan Wesamba, who has been a P6 pupil at Madibira Primary School, was found dead near a house that is still under construction in Mawero, four days after he was kidnapped from their home in Solo in Busia Town.

Mr Nelson Nahabwe, the Busia District police commander, last Saturday confirmed the kidnap and the death and said the body of the deceased was found hidden behind an unfinished building in Mawero West village in Busia Town.

He said the case of the missing child had been reported to police on March 9, and detectives dispatched to begin investigating the matter.

Father speaks
Mr Abdu Wesamba, the father of the deceased, told Daily Monitor that his son was kidnapped by unknown assailants as he played with other children in Solo village under unclear circumstances.
He revealed that a day after his child was kidnapped, he received a strange call from someone who first demanded Shs3 million to have the son released.

Mr Wesamba said when he could not raise it, the kidnapper lowered the amount to Shs1 million

Daily Monitor investigations was able to access the audio calls made by the assailant as he demanded for the money and threatening to have the child harmed if the parents did not heed.
The relatives accused the police of not doing enough to have had the deceased rescued.
