Teachers trained on how to set exams
BY ASUMAN MUSOBYA
Bugiri –
Primary school teachers in Bugiri District have been trained on how to set logical examinations.

According to Uganda Community Based Association for Women and Child welfare (UCOBAC), the centre coordinating the training,
a number of teachers do not know how to set examinations resulting into poor performance.
The tutor in charge of training, Mr Leonard Omilyo Ochode, said the type of questions set in examinations also reflect the quality of teachers.

To improve the quality of teachers and teaching methods, he suggested that teachers should spend more time in the training school.

"The two years (teachers spend training in the colleges) is clearly not enough. This is why it is now common to find a teacher who cannot set an examination or express him/herself in fairly good English," he said.

He said the pass mark for mathematics in teachers’ colleges should be raised from a pass (50 per cent) to a credit (60 per cent).
