Executive Director of Oxfam International, Winnie Byanyima, has expressed interest and readiness to contest for Uganda’s presidency.
In an Interview with NTV, Ms Byanyima said she has what it takes to run for presidency in the near future.

“I have no question in my mind that I have the ability or even the passion to change our country,” Ms Byanyima said adding that politics is a game of teams working together but not one propelling herself, so if she is supported by any political party most likely the forum for Democratic Change [FDC] and other women movements, she will contest.
The former Mbarara Municipality Member of Parliament made the remarks on sideline of the 21st anniversary of Forum for Women in Democracy {FOWODE] in Kampala on Saturday, alongside the famous Kenyan Politician Martha Karua who contested for the country’s Presidency in 2013.
“If one day there is an opportunity and a team that shares my Vision and wants me to lead it, I will rise,” Ms Byanyima added.

However when contacted, the FDC Spokesperson, Mr Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda, said he could not comment on the matter.
At the same function, Byanyima said much as women movements have played a great role in empowering women since 1995, a lot still needs to be done to ensure gender equality in the country.
“Women are still subordinates. We are still leaving in a society where men enjoy privileges. Majority of our people do not enjoy good healthy, children do not receive quality education, and women still face violence at home. So we are not there yet,” said Ms Byanyima.
