The Civil Aviation Authority Managing Director Wenceslaus Rama Makuza has been sacked over performance.
According to the Ministry of Works and Transport, Mr Makuza who has been at the helm of the aviation body since 2008 was “found wanting” by the Board- the top decision making body of the organization.

“The Board found his performance was not up to what they desired and for the good of CAA and the entire country his contract was terminated,” Ms Susan Kataike, the Ministry of Works and Transport publicist said in an interview with the Daily Monitor.
“It was a normal appraisal by the Board and the performance report was discussed with Mr Makuza and the Minister of Works and Transport,” she said.

Mr Makuza was terminated by the Cabinet Minister of Works and Transport, Ms Monica Ntege Azuba on recommendation of the Board Chairman, Mr Edward Ndawula on Tuesday and his contract was expected to expire at the end of the year.

“It is true the MD’s contract has been terminated by the appointing authority (Minister of Works and Transport),” Mr Vianney Luggya, CAA’s communications officers confirmed, adding that he has been replaced his deputy by Dr David Kakuba who is in the acting position.
Captain Mike Mukula, an Aviation operator told this newspaper that the CAA Board has now started to bite.
“There has been a decline in Uganda’s Aviation sector compared to our regional neighbours in Kenya, Tanzania and Rwanda and I am happy about the board’s decision,” Captain Mukula said.
He said CAA should create an environment which is plausible for investment while at the same time carrying out its regulation mandate.
