Kampala- A cabinet meeting at Parliament on Wednesday upheld the reinstatement of Prof Isaiah Ndiege as the Vice Chancellor of Kyambogo University saying, “as long as it is legally justified.”
However, the university staff strike yesterday entered day three and no resolution had been passed yet.
Information minister Rosemary Namayanja told the Daily Monitor that, several cabinet members were furious about the state of affairs at the public university, and tasked the Education minister to adopt a timely solution to the ongoing crisis.
“If court found no basis to remove the vice chancellor from office, why then should the staff behave in such a way,” Ms Namayanja asked.
“As government, we stick by court’s decision. Any attempt to challenge it should also be within the law and not through staging strikes,” she added.
The staff under their associations, on Tuesday withdrew services to the institution protesting against Prof Ndiege’ reinstatement, and have vowed not to return until “he is fired or until his contract expires in January 2014.”
Prof Ndiege was suspended in September last year after he fell out with staff and some top administrators who despised his management style.
