  • While reviewing CCTV footages, police found that three guards at the hospital and another one from G4S, took turns to surveil Ekalungar’s office.
  • Mr Owoyesigire said the guards had moved suspiciously to the office and one of them is said to have trailed Ekalungar’s car to the road.

Kampala. Police are groping for clues to unravel circumstances surrounding the gruesome killing of Case Hospital accountant, Francis Ekalungar, early this month.

Ekalugar was kidnapped and his body later found burnt beyond recognition at Kajjansi, off the Kampala-Entebbe highway.

It took a DNA test to match his remains with samples taken from his two children to establish his identity.
Kampala Metropolitan police acting spokesperson Luke Owoyesigire said lack of concrete leads were frustrating their efforts in tracking the killers.

“We have recorded statements from the MD [managing director], doctors and Ekalungar’s close friends to establish whether he (the deceased) had any misunderstanding with anyone but we got nothing to that effect,” he said.

Mr Owoyesigire said the police had resorted to studying Ekalungar’s phone call logs to establish whether they could pick up any leads to follow.

Investigations on-going
“As of now, we do not have any clues that can lead police to arrest the assailants,” Mr Owoyesigire said, adding that the investigations were still on-going despite the setback.

Information that Daily Monitor obtained shows that Ekalungar allegedly picked up someone as he drove out of the hospital compound before his phones went off shortly after around Nakasero in the heart of Kampala city.

Even the guards that police earlier claimed acted suspicious have since told the police that their actions were routine.

While reviewing CCTV footages, police found that three guards at the hospital and another one from G4S, took turns to surveil Ekalungar’s office.

Mr Owoyesigire said the guards had moved suspiciously to the office and one of them is said to have trailed Ekalungar’s car to the road.

He said the guards are still being held at Central Police Station, Kampala but detectives had found nothing linking them to the murder.
